Brodex was tasked with providing regular water hygiene services for Brothers of Charity Services, who support adults faced with learning disabilities across the Merseyside and Lancashire region.
Carers provide support to adults both offsite and at contact centres, as well as at the registered nursing home located at the Chorley site.
Brothers of Charity Services in Lancashire have been working with water hygiene company Brodex for more than two years after an initial recommendation from a children’s charity.
As an organisation that provides water hygiene services for those who are often at increased risk of water infections, they wanted to be sure they had a robust water hygiene management strategy in place to reduce the risk of exposure to harmful bacteria such as Legionella.
With hot and cold water systems running through the Chorley Nursing home, as well as a soon to be installed watering hygiene system serving a garden area, Brothers of Charity Services specifically require regular Legionella risk assessments and tests.
The Water Hygiene Programme
Brodex have introduced a regular water hygiene programme of work for Brothers of Charity Services Chorley site.
This has included:
- An initial in-depth risk assessment to identify where the water hygiene system needed attention;
- Distribution of log-books among Brothers of Charity staff to allow for day-to day checks of the system;
- Regular water hygiene testing and treatment carried out by Brodex as part of an ongoing water hygiene management strategy.
Brothers of Charity Service’s in Lancashire health and safety manager Mike Warhurst has worked with Brodex since the start of the programme and says his organisation has been provided with all the expertise and flexibility it required.
“It is important to us that we’re on top of our water management strategy when it comes to meeting legal obligations and best practices.
“Brodex’s first point of call was our nursing home but we will also have a watering system serving a garden area on our site shortly, which Brodex will also regularly service.
“We’ve never had any issues when it comes to the water systems and we really feel we’re in the hands of the experts when dealing with Brodex’s professional and friendly team.
“We really value our relationship with Brodex. We can always contact them and they’re more than happy to discuss the health and safety needs of our oganisation.”
