Water testing standards assured

By Brodex

Brodex has been providing water testing and treatment services to clients for over 17 years. Not only does our experience equip us with the necessary expertise to tackle water hygiene issues, we strive to remain at forefront of developments in legionella testing and control. Memberships and accreditations further assure our customers of the exacting water testing standards to which we adhere.

Legionella Control Association membership

The Legionella Control Association (LCA) is a voluntary organisation whose membership comprises providers of services and products concerned with the control of legionella bacteria in water systems. Its primary aim is to keep water systems safe. The LCA has close links with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and other public health authorities and regularly participates in consultations, task groups and conferences concerned with minimising the risk of Legionnaires' disease. As an LCA member we are required to comply with the Code of Conduct for service providers. Over time the Code has been refined and there are now nine service provider commitments. The Code requires service providers to draw up a Statement of Compliance addressing each commitment, and to establish and maintain appropriate management systems for the services that we offer which are associated with the control of legionella.

Accredited water testing laboratories

Under EU legislation every country has a single National Accreditation Body (NAB), whose role is to carry out the independent third-party assessment of organisations that offer testing, calibration, inspection and certification services. The UK government has appointed the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to assess organisations against internationally recognised standards. The UKAS accreditation process determines the technical competence and integrity of organisations offering these services.

UKAS helped to develop a framework for accrediting Legionella risk assessments under both ISO/IEC 17020 (General criteria for the operation of various types of bodies undertaking inspection activities which includes legionella risk assessments) and British Standard BS 8580:2010 (Water Quality – Risk assessments for Legionella control – Code of Practice). The British Standard was produced to underpin The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved code of practice and guidance document L8 (Legionnaires’ Disease: The control of Legionella bacteria in water systems).

Our water testing process entails collecting a sample in a sterile container, labelling and transportation to a UKAS-accredited laboratory within 24 hours of collection. Technicians qualified to UKAS standards analyse the sample and results are recorded and issued to the customer within 10 days. Any contamination found to be present will prompt Brodex engineers to undertake the necessary remedial action.

Through our many testimonials, accreditations and memberships Brodex can assure our existing and new customers of the best in quality standards for water testing, treatment and hygiene management.
