Recent Legionella Outbreaks
Legionella Outbreaks in recent years have reminded us that it remains a serious threat.
In November of last year, there was a major outbreak of Legionella in Portugal that infected 370 people and killed 12, making it one of the largest ever incidents of the disease. In the summer of 2012 Edinburgh also suffered a Legionnaires’ outbreak, thought to have stemmed from a cooling tower. Four victims died and 56 people were confirmed as having contracted the disease.
These incidents are a reminder that Legionnaires’ can be fatal, particularly for the elderly and those with existing health problems. This is why regular Legionella risk assessments are vital in any building where there is a water supply – not only are they a legal requirement, but they can save lives and prevent serious illness.
At Brodex we can carry out a detailed and thorough examination of your entire water system, and identify any action that needs to be taken to prevent the growth of Legionella bacteria. Head over to the dedicated page on our website to find out more about what Legionnaires’ is, what our risk assessment involves and how you can prevent an outbreak.
